Revealed: 2014 SRT Viper TA - New York 2013
Making its debut at the New York Auto Show and on sale late this year, the 2014 SRT Viper TA will be the most intense street-legal version of the Chrysler Group's newly remade supercar released to date. SRT (Street and Racing Technology) plans to build only 33 examples of the TA - which stands for Time Attack - all done in Crusher Orange paint and optimized to showcase the car's formidable potential on a race track.
This new Viper TA variant is based on the standard SRT Viper. While no changes are made to its 8.4-liter/640-horsepower V10 engine or 6-speed manual gearbox, the car does get a focused chassis massage to help it extract the maximum bite from its Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires wrapped around black-anodized Sidewinder II lightweight alloy wheels. Key changes include a firmer and more narrowly scaled dual-mode Bilstein Damptronic suspension from the Viper GTS model, complemented with recalibrated springs and racing-derived stabilizer bars. The TA also swaps out the standard aluminum structural X-brace in the engine compartment for a lighter and stiffer carbon fiber alternative. As a final touch, the car's Brembo brakes - featuring black anodized calipers with a Crusher Orange Viper logo - will be tweaked to increase their thermal capacity and improve heat dissipation under extreme use.
Beyond its unique color scheme that also brings black TA-logo decals on the front fenders, the 2014 SRT Viper TA boasts a number of distinctive -- and functional -- cosmetic touches. Custom front splitters and a rear spoiler all made from lightweight carbon fiber help the high-speed stability while a carbon fiber appliqué on the valance panel tastefully ties the taillamps and accentuates the car's wide-body character. Inside, the TA model retains the SRT Viper's standard black color motif and Sabelt racing seats covered in premium ballistic fabric, but with contrasting Crusher Orange accent stitching throughout.
All 33 examples of the 2014 SRT Viper TA will be built at the Conner Avenue Assembly plant that also turns out the standard Viper and Viper GTS. There's still no word on what one of these exclusive limited-edition TA models will cost.
