Revealed: 2014 Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale - Geneva 2013
Putting a 2+2 twist on one of its hottest European models, the 2014 Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale makes its world debut in Geneva alongside the automaker's new Quattroporte flagship sedan. Despite this new GranTurismo variant gaining an extra measure of practicality through the addition of two modestly-scaled rear seats and an even-more stylishly appointed cabin, the 4-seater Euro-spec MC Stradale still draws design inspiration from its more competitive race-prepped cousin -- which will continue to contest the single-marque Maserati Trofeo Championship series as a track-modified 2-seater.
While all of its major body panels carry over, the latest GranTurismo MC Stradale does gain the racer's more aggressively rendered carbon fiber hood, complete with functional air intake. Forged 20-inch alloy wheels and a new rear bumper design that incorporates a restyled lower diffuser with dual integrated exhaust tips round out the cars cosmetic revamp.
Powering the 2014 MC Stradale is the same Ferrari-designed 4.7-liter/454-horsepower naturally aspirated V8 used across the entire GranTurismo range -- including the 4-passenger S/Sport/MC versions sold here in the U.S. That motive force heads to the rear wheels via an MC Race Shift 6-speed automated manual transmission and is sufficient to take the car to a top end of 188 mph. To bleed speed in a safe and sane manner, the MC Stradale also is fitted with lightweight and fade-banishing Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes.
While the new MC Stradale still won't be coming to America as a unique GranTurismo model, Maserati sources indicate that several elements -- including the new composite hood and restyled forged-alloy wheels as well as the revised tail treatment -- will be found on at least the 2014 GranTurismo MC. No word on exactly when that vehicle will first appear in Maserati showrooms here, but speculation points to some time in late 2013. Pricing will be announced closer to its official on-sale date.
