2016 Porsche Macan Buyer's Guide

More 911 than mini-Cayenne.

The Macan is the second SUV in the Porsche lineup, and even though it has the looks of a scaled-down Cayenne, it places a much higher priority on sports-car-like performance than its big brother. With the strong emphasis on being a sporty SUV, some of the pure utilitarian abilities suffer, but the Porsche Macan can carry five people and all of their gear and is capable of light off-roading.

Driving It

From our full review of the 2016 Porsche Macan: "On the track, the available Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) tightens an already great suspension and electric power-steering settings to create an SUV that can sweep through high-speed corners like no other, even shaming some sports cars. In everyday driving, the athletic Macan takes on a more demure side, with a quiet cabin and civilized ride."

A 911 in SUV Form

The Macan S already impresses by providing the driving dynamics of a sports car, while still offering cargo flexibility second in the Porsche lineup only to the larger Cayenne SUV. To make a Macan feel even more like a 911, there's the 400-horsepower Macan Turbo, which reaches 60 mph in less than 5 seconds. If you want to dial it back a little, there's the Macan GTS, which falls in between the S and Turbo. The GTS is a 2017 model that'll go on sale in early 2016.

Build and Price

Pricing for the Macan S starts at under $54,000. The Macan Turbo tops out at over $166,000, fully loaded. Build and price your own 2016 Porsche Macan to unlock its Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price, 5-Year Cost to Own and more.

Consumers' Opinions

David feels that despite the SUV layout, the Macan still has the Porsche spirit, adding, "Makes no pretense of being true off-road capable, but thereby achieves great performance as a real world fun and practical transporter. Great brakes, great trans, great engine and great handling; then details such as interior layout, engine note, steering wheel that can not be mistaken for anything but Porsche. Only sour note is dud stock stereo and way overpriced escapes (Bose and Burmester)." Read more Porsche Macan consumer reviews.
