Showcasing a bit of the untapped potential in its latest supercar offering, the McLaren MSO 650 S Coupe Concept was unveiled in Beijing prior to embarking on a grand China tour in the weeks ahead. Created by McLaren Special Operations, this sinister one-off is fitted with a number of performance-enhancing parts that can be added to any new 650S Coupe or Spider. In many cases, these same bits also can be used on McLaren's 12C models that the 650S line replaces.
The McLaren MSO 650S Coupe Concept is painted Agrigan Black, a unique metallic finish infused with deep ruby flake shifts color in direct sunlight. The treatment features an array of aero-enhancing carbon fiber components all with a satin finish, and includes a new front splitter and air intakes, full-length side-sills, a GT3-inspired rear fascia with a more aggressive diffuser and a carbon fiber air brake element. The final exterior touch includes satin-black lightweight "650S" alloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires.
Inside, the MSO 650S Coupe Concept uses the same satin-finish carbon fiber material on the dash and console set off with gloss black accents. The fixed-back carbon fiber racing seats are wrapped in carbon black leather and positioned even lower in the cabin, providing superior support and weighing 33 pounds less than the standard buckets. Even the engine bay on this MSO-massaged exercise boasts a carbon fiber remake, adding a satin finish to the cover on the 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8.
While McLaren Automotive officially refers to the MSO 650S Coupe Concept as a design study, it plans to monitor response to determine whether it should be built as a limited-run model. For the moment, the side sills and rear diffuser are the only components available through McLaren retailers, but we suspect more will be on the way.
