A sweet looking al fresco exercise to be sure, the 2013 Lotus Exige S Roadster had its grand unveiling in Geneva. Essentially an Exige S Coupe with a soft top and a personality Lotus refers to as "more raw than a Japanese tasting menu," this two-seat speedster packs the same 345-horspower/3.5-liter supercharged V6 amidships as its hard-shell sibling and weighing just 2,425 pounds, can blast from 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds and top out at 145 mph. Sadly, it won't be doing any of that properly British road raging here in America.
Key choices facing Lotus Exige S Roadster buyers abroad will center on transmission choices -- the standard six-speed manual gearbox or a paddle-shifted Lotus Serial Precision Shift (SPS) automated manual - and whether to opt for the standard sport tuned suspension or go for Race Pack that brings even stiffer underpinnings and a launch control function that can be engaged when the car is in "Race" mode. In a similar vein, the car will be offered with the choice of a baseline minimalist interior treatment or a "comfort enhanced" plush alternative.
