Offering a first look at the hidden potential that lies within the automaker's new full-size commercial van, the Ford Transit Skyliner Concept arrived in style at the New York Auto Show. Matching a high-profile exterior with an ultra-flexible premium cabin, Ford likens this distinctive one-off to a private jet on wheels and hopes it will draw interest from the limousine market as well as help establish the Transit as "the next generation of modern, cool, fuel-efficient vans" when the production models go on sale this summer.

The Transit Skyliner Concept was envisioned by Ford with input from its European design team and Galpin Auto Sports, dedicated custom/specialty division of Southern California's Galpin Ford, the world's largest Blue Oval dealer. This ultra-spec motor coach offers those aboard four dynamic "experience modes" - Theatre, Business, Reception and Travel - all controlled via a smartphone or tablet using a Crestron automation system that adjusts the leather-wrapped throne-like seats and also commands operation of all other creature features and functions.

The Skyliner Concept's long list of amenities includes a Focal Utopia 7.2 surround sound audio system with custom-made speakers, a 52-inch retractable Stewart movie screen, DIRECTV satellite TV, a media server, built-in bar, LED ambient lighting and bespoke luggage made from leather that matches the seats. Powered by a 365-horse/3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, the Skyliner Concept is finished in unique silver metallic paint set off with contrasting lower body trim and bespoke Forgiato alloy wheels.
