A sneak peek of the new, fifth-generation BMW 7 Series reveals a flagship sedan that retains its essence while improving on virtually all fronts. More of a driver's car than ever, the agile 7 returns with lighter-weight construction, a new suspension and four distinct driving setups (five, if you include the no-holds-barred DSC-off mode). There's also speed-sensitive steering for both front and rear wheels. The U.S. lineup will include the 750i and longer-wheelbase 750Li, both of which will be powered by BMW's new twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8, delivering 400 horsepower, 450 pound-feet of torque and predicted fuel economy in the low 20-mpg range. Inside, a lineup of high-concept innovations like Night Vision with Pedestrian Detection proves to be an attack on the senses. And, yes, iDrive has again been revised to be more intuitive or less frustrating, depending on your experience with previous versions. The more aggressively styled new 7 Series will go on sale in Spring 2009. BMW hasn't announced pricing yet, but don't expect any pleasant surprises in light of the current dollar-euro relationship.
