Autobot addicts will be pleased to learn that the third installment of the successful Transformer movie series will feature a Ferrari 458 Italia in one of its starring roles. No word yet on exactly what from or character name this sexy Italian shape shifter will be taking on, but producer/director Michael Bay did confirm the car would appear in the upcoming Transformers 3 epic while attending a charity event that saw the first U.S.-spec 458 Italia be auctioned off for $530,000. Ferrari is donating the proceeds to help underwrite the cost of a children's hospital now under construction in Haiti.
In his online blog, Bay also noted that the Frances McDormand and John Malkovich have been signed to headline the human cast of Transformers 3, which will begin shooting later this year in Chicago, Los Angeles, Florida, Texas and Washington D.C. as well as in Moscow, Africa and China. The man behind the Transformers franchise also thanked his blog followers for donating $20,000 to the Make-A-Wish foundation in conjunction with the Ferrari auction, funds that will be personally matched by Bay. Transformers 3 is slated to roll into theatres July 1, 2011.
