The Detroit Auto Show remains one of the biggest and most anticipated auto shows in the world and draws more visitors to kbb.com than any other auto show. Also known by the loftier North American International Auto Show or NAIAS, the Detroit Auto Show is held annually at downtown Detroit's Cobo Center, with a public opening date around the middle of January. Not just the home auto show for the American auto industry, the Detroit Auto Show is also an important show for automakers from around the world as the key car show in one of the world's largest car markets. Whether you're researching a new car purchase or just like keeping up with the latest concept cars, the Detroit Auto Show delivers year in and year out.
The Big Three introduced a trio of important sedans in the Cadillac ATS, Dodge Dart and next-gen Ford Fusion, while the Acura NSX and Lexus LF-LC lead an impressive display of concept cars.
New models unveiled at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show included next-gen versions of the Chrysler 300 and VW Passat, plus an all-new Hyundai three-door called Veloster. The Ford Vertrek Concept foreshadowed the new Ford Escape, and Hyundai revealed one of the most interesting shapes at the show in the form of the Curb concept.
At the 2010 Detroit Auto Show Mini offered an early look at the 2011 Mini Countryman by way of the door-less Beachcomber concept, Volkswagen's New Compact Coupe Concept proved to be an early look at the styling direction for the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta, and we're still hoping to see the GMC Granite Concept make a transition to the real world.
We wish the Chrysler 200 looked more like the Chrysler 200C EV Concept shown at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show, and we're glad the 2011 Volvo S60 does indeed have much of the personality of the S60 Concept shown in Detroit the same year. We're still waiting to see a Volkswagen convertible in the spirit of the Concept Blue Sport.
Before there were the 2011 Ford Explorer, 2011 Range Rover Evoque and 2011 Nissan Quest, there were concept versions dubbed Explorer America, LRX and Forum, all of which were revealed at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show.
