A new Electric Vehicle Survey by Kelley Blue Book Market Intelligence found that two vehicles, the Chevrolet Volt and Toyota Prius Plug-in, far outstripped all others when it came to dominating the awareness of respondents who were interested in EV technology. The Volt narrowly edged out the Prius, although both were on the radar of two out of three respondents. Third on the list was the Tesla Roadster, with a 37-percent awareness index followed by the Nissan LEAF (21 percent) and Ford Electric Transit Connect (16 percent). Rounding out the field -- albeit all with single-digit Awareness profiles were the Mini E, Mitsubishi iMieV, Jeep Patriot PHEV and the Volvo C30 Electric.
Not surprisingly, the Volt and Prius Plug-in also topped the list when the category heading changed from mere awareness to actual purchase probability. Both shared an equal 37-percent rating among respondents who were asked to stack the eco-motoring deck with respect to their likelihood of either considering -- or definitely planning -- to buy one of these extended-range electric vehicles. While still trailing the leaders, the Nissan LEAF and Ford Electric Transit Connect tied for third spot with identical 33-percent marks.
