Recalling one of the most distinctively styled vehicles produced in the last 100 years, the Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera Disco Volante Concept made its much anticipated debut in Geneva to raves from those in attendance. Drawing design inspiration from an earlier Carrozzeria Touring exercise -- the futuristic-looking 1952 Alfa Romeo Disco Volante -- this modern-day homage is based on an Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione model and gets its power from a Ferrari-designed 4.7-liter/444-horsepower V8 engine.
Sensuously contoured and elegantly compelling, the front-engined/two-seat Disco Volante Concept is wrapped in lightweight body panels made from hand-formed aluminum and carbon fiber. While Touring made only four of the original Disco Volante models in 1952, the famed Italian coachbuilder is set to produce this stunning successor in a slightly longer albeit still very limited series run. However would-be owners must supply Touring with a suitable donor Alfa Romeo 8C, be willing to wait at least six months for their finished dream machine and be prepared to part with an undisclosed amount of cash.
