Noted Euro tuning firm ABT Sportsline has confirmed that it's hard at work preparing a performance version of the newest VW offering for Frankfurt. Although final specs and stats on the ABT Sportsline Volkswagen Beetle -- internally dubbed the "Speedle" -- have yet to be released, the firm did offer an early look at what we can expect visually and confirmed that European buyers will be able to choose from several different stages of quickness. These will come courtesy of various ABT Power Package upgrades for both the Beetle's gasoline and turbodiesel engines, with the top 2.0-liter gasoline turbo motivator likely to have its pony count upped from 200 to between 230-240 horses.
To add a touch of aggressive charm to its Speedle-to-be, ABT has complemented the car's already more sophisticated basic lines with a number of tasteful body kit elements including a front spoiler, side sills, and rear skirt/diffuser. In addition to its bespoke paint accents that reflect ABT's logo colors, this bad-boy Beetle also boasts understated head- and taillight brows plus a pair of oval shaped exhaust outlets. On a more functional note, the car's handling prowess is upgraded with a suspension revamp highlighted by the fitment of custom ABT Performance Springs; and to properly bolster corning capabilities, the ABT Sportsline Volkswagen Beetle wears a set of 19-inch ABT Sportsline CR alloy wheels wrapped in sticky high-performance rubber. Although we'll have to wait until September to see what actually shows up on the firm's stand in Frankfurt, even in prototype guise, the ABT Sportsline Volkswagen Beetle shows plenty of promise.
