The American Automobile Association has created a new iPhone-specific, mobile version of its TripTik Travel Planner aimed at making life easier and less costly for daily commuters as well as those planning to drive rather than fly to their favorite vacation spots this summer. Available as a free download from the iTunes Store, the GPS-based TripTik Mobile app shows updated locations and pricing information on nearby gas stations as well as on all AAA-approved hotels and restaurants, club headquarters, entertainment attractions and other local points of interest.
A full-feature real-time application that uses a database from navigation market leader NAVTEQ, the AAA TripTik Mobile provides both detailed on-screen maps and directions to specific locations as well as voice guidance that can be accessed either by pressing a button or giving your iPhone a quick shake. The AAA does note that its TripTik Mobile app requires uninterrupted Wi-Fi access for full functionality used on various iPod Touch devices.
This is the third free app to be offered by AAA, and joins the AAA Discounts and AAA Roadside programs. The GPS-based AAA Discounts app displays all nearby AAA Show Your Card & Save locations while AAA Roadside allows club members who require emergency service to send their vehicle location info and specific breakdown details directly to the AAA.
