Offering enhanced enthusiast appeal without an AMG-spec pricepoint, the 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLA250 Sport Package Plus will be coming to America late this year. Based on an option group already on sale in Europe, the Sport Package Plus brings both cosmetic and functional upgrades to M-B's compact sedan that take it beyond what's available in the existing Sport Package.
Key visual tweaks on the CLA250 Sport Package Plus include a revised diamond-look grille with silver pins, red accent stripes on the front/rear bumpers, red painted brake calipers and Sport badges on the front fenders. The car's handling is sharpened courtesy of an AMG-designed front axle and suspension, more linear sport steering gear and bespoke 18-inch AMG light alloy wheels wrapped in high-performance tires. Although the CLA250's engine gets no internal changes - its free-revving 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder still cranks out 208 horses and 258 lb-ft of torque regardless of whether it heads to the front or all four wheels - a custom exhaust system has been fitted that adds a throatier note. Sport Package Plus kit also includes a remapping of the CLA250's 7-speed DCT dual-clutch automatic transmission that lets it deliver even more aggressive response in "Sport" mode.
Inside, the CLA250 Sport Package Plus features a similarly focused upgrading. Artico/Dynamic - M-B's equivalent of Alcantara - material with red top stitching covers the sport seats which are set off by a black headliner, red seat belts and custom floor mats. The sport steering wheel also gains stainless-steel shift paddles.
No official pricing has been released for the Sport Package Plus upgrade. However, Mercedes indicates it will likely add about $4,000 to the bottom line of a 2015 250CLA. The 2014 250CLA opens at $30,825 while the 2014 CLA250 4Matic all-wheel drive starts at $32,825.
