As expected, the new 2015 Lexus RC Coupe will have its grand unveiling at the Tokyo Auto Show later this month. Previewed by the Lexus LF-LC Concept that was introduced at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show, this sleek new entry to the lineup boasts the boldest take yet on the luxury division's L-finesse design philosophy. Two versions of this new 2-door will be on display: the Lexus RC 350 fitted with a conventional 3.5-liter V6 and the RC 300h Hybrid that will match a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with an electric motor. Although no power figures have been released for either at this time, the former develops 306 horsepower in the current Lexus IS350 and the latter makes 220 horses in the European-only IS 300h model.
Seeking to infuse its future products with a level of visual excitement that will help lure new and younger customers to the brand, the Lexus RC Coupe features an aggressive exterior that bookends deeply sculpted body panels with equally edgy fascia treatments. Up front, the widest and lowest variation on the division's signature spindle grille is flanked by new LED headlamps in a unique triangular array that illuminate in an L-shaped pattern in low-beam mode. In addition to an integrated spoiler, functional diffuser and prominent air extractors, the tail of the new RC Coupe sports its own LED combination lamps that also incorporate an L-shaped configuration. The show cars also introduce a new Lexus painting process that uses multiple coats of clear and color coatings to add more brightness and depth to the finish.
The cabin design of the new RC Coupe displays a similarly purposeful appearance. High-contrast trim that includes shimamoku wood accents, a new Clove color and the first use of a dedicated Lexus-spec lighting package complement the driver-oriented cockpit that also features a navigation system with a 7.0-inch display screen and a new Remote Touch Interface. To add an extra measure of support and comfort, the seats in the RC Coupe feature an integrated foaming construction process similar to the one used to create seats used in racing cars.
Full details on the new 2015 Lexus RC Coupe will be presented in Tokyo. As we indicated in our earlier story, a hot F Sport version of the new 2015 Lexus RC Coupe also has been spotted testing in Europe. It's expected to make its formal world debut at Detroit Auto Show in January.
