Bringing new levels of luxury and elegance to America's best-known premium SUV brand, Cadillac has revealed the 2015 Escalade Platinum Collection. Set to launch during the fourth quarter, the range-topping Escalade Platinum will match its distinctive upgrades with a number of functional improvements found on the all-new 2015 Escalade and long-wheelbase Escalade ESV models, which launched in the spring.
Keys exterior cues on the new Escalade Platinum include a unique grille insert, 22-inch alloy wheels and a healthy helping of additional brightwork along with bespoke Platinum badging. Like base, Luxury and Premium Collection Escalades, the Platinum also wears Cadillac's new "wreathless" crest on its nose and tailgate.
The big changes for the Platinum Collection Escalade are found inside. On the cosmetic front, semi-aniline Nappa leather covers the front and second-row seats while the dash, door panels and center console feature hand-stitched/fitted conventional hide trim set off with various exotic wood accents, a suede-look microfiber headliner, upgraded floor mats and Platinum-signature sill plates. Functional tweaks bring heated/cooled 18-way power front buckets with massage feature for the driver, dual 7.0-inch LCD screens in the front seatbacks to supplement the 9.0-inch overhead entertainment display and a cooled center console compartment.
Other mid-model year improvements for all Escalades include an 8-speed Hydra-Matic transmission that replaces the current 6-speed autoshifter - a change that could and should help boost the yet-unreleased EPA figures on this 7-passenger luxury liner. The expanded features roster also adds a Surround View camera system, 4G LTE connectivity and hands-free closing capability to complement the standard hands-free power-up liftgate. Those upgrades bump the Escalade's basic price of admission by $1,275 to $73,965 while the new Escalade Platinum Collection will open at $90,270.
