2014 Chevrolet Silverado Pickup officially teased

Although the all-new 2014 Chevrolet Silverado isn't scheduled to go into production until sometime in 2013, the division has released this image of a camouflaged version of its next-generation full-size pickup undergoing final validation testing at GM's Milford Proving Ground in Michigan. Save for the Silverado being fine-tuned to deliver "a comfortable, well-balanced ride," few facts have been revealed about the vehicle Chevrolet is grooming to take on its two key segment rivals, the country's perennial best-selling overall vehicle, the Ford F-150 and the all-new for 2013 Ram 1500.

Even with a full face mask in place, it's obvious the new Silverado's exterior cosmetic makeover appears destined to be fairly evolutionary in nature. However, expect a selection of wind-cheating tricks to be on hand to help clean up its aero act. The more prominent changes are expected to be found beneath its skin, starting with a redesigned cabin that will add new levels of style, comfort and convenience to the basic mix.

Chevy's top-selling vehicle also will add a bespoke version of GM's new Gen 5 small-block V8 to its underhood arsenal. A bespoke version of the compact, lightweight engine destined for use in the all-new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette, it's rumored to have a displacement of 5.5-liters, feature an aluminum block, direct fuel injection and a higher compression ratio plus several other efficiency enhancing design touches including a new combustion system that may involve a three-valve head design, an updated version of GM's "active fuel management" cylinder deactivation system and variable valve timing.

Other enticing Silverado speculations include the possibility of it offering a turbocharged V6 to rival the F-150's incredibly popular EcoBoost V6, being fitted with a mileage-maxing 8-speed automatic transmission and being underpinned by a comprehensively redesigned frame. If things go as planned, we should know all in January when the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado is slated to make its debut in production form the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.
