Chevy has announced that it will kick off production of the all-new 2014 Corvette Stingray Coupe with a limited Premiere Edition model. Confined to the first 500 units of production, all will be based on the top-line 3LT trim, finished in Laguna Blue Tintcoat and feature a Brownstone suede interior with various suede-wrapped and carbon fiber accents plus a visible carbon fiber roof panel. Rounding out the cosmetic enhancements on the 2014 Stingray Premiere Edition are a "stinger" hood stripe plus "Stingray"-logo interior sill plates and wheel caps. Each one also will feature a unique identification number dash plaque.
On the functional front, the Stingray Premiere Edition features the Z51 Performance Package that brings an electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential, upgraded brakes and Magnetic Selective Ride Control. The cars also will have the variable tuned performance exhaust system that adds more muscle to its 6.2-liter LS3 V8, bumping horsepower from 455 to 460 and taking peak torque from 460 to 465 lb-ft. It can be backed with either a 6-speed manual or paddle-shifted 6-speed automatic transmission. Based on testing data released last week by Chevrolet, that collection of enhancements should let the Premiere Edition Coupe blitz to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds, stopping from that pace in just 107 feet and hanging on in corners with a pretty amazing 1.03g of maximum lateral grip.
As a finishing touch, the lengthy roster of standard features on the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Premiere Edition also will include a set of custom Corvette-branded luggage created by Thule. Although Chevy did not release final pricing for the Stingray Premiere Edition, it's expected to start around $75,000.
