BMW has announced a number of changes for the entire 2014 6 Series lineup including the hot M6 Coupe, Sedan and 4-door Gran Coupe models, all of which will go on sale here in early June. The highest-profile of these updates will be the arrival of a new limited-production vehicle, the BMW 6 Series Convertible Frozen Brilliant White Edition. Production of the 100 units that will be heading to the U.S. is set to start this month, and as the name implies, the exterior on all will be the BMW Individual-exclusive matte-finish color Frozen Brilliant White, set off with a black soft top and Black Nappa leather upholstery teamed with Gray Poplar wood trim.

Other distinctive touches include Frozen Black wing-mirror caps, black BMW kidney grilles, and 20-inch bi-color Ferric Gray/gloss-turned BMW M Performance light-alloy wheels. The vehicles will be available in rear-drive 650i or all-wheel-drive 650i xDrive form. All Frozen Brilliant White Edition cabriolets will feature M Sport and Executive Packages, while xDrive variants also are fitted with the Cold Weather Package. As a finishing touch, the cars also will be the first U.S.-spec BMW models to offer the automaker's trick Dynamic Digital Instrument Cluster that permits the look and character of the displays to change as the driver chooses different modes in the car's Driving Dynamics Control package. Pricing for the 2014 BMW 650i Convertible Frozen Brilliant White Edition will start at $106,695, while the 650i xDrive will open at $110,095.

BMW also confirmed good news for the M6 lineup in the form of a 6-speed manual gearbox that will be added to the option list as a no-charge alternative for those who prefer to shift for themselves rather than use the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This 6-speed will get custom engine-management software that includes an automatic rev-matching function on downshifts made in "Efficient" and "Sport" modes while leaving full-manual matching up to the driver in "Sport+" setting. The 2014 M Squad also will offer optional carbon ceramic brakes that improve stopping power while trimming a huge 42.8 pounds of unsprung weight from the package.

The 2014 BMW 6 Series (along with other 2014 models in the lineup) also will be fitted with the new BMW iDrive4.2 navigation system. In addition to full voice recognition, this enhanced navi package features a faster processor and high-res 3D graphics as well as improved iDrive controller functions, a new radial "Pie" menu that simplifies access to an even larger selection of options, and a split-screen view that provides more detailed guidance capability. The new setup also can simultaneously pair two individual smartphones to the car at any given time.
