Both the 2014 328d Sedan and Sports Wagon will be fitted with the company's well-proven 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder diesel engine that makes 180 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. Backed by a standard 8-speed automatic transmission, BMW says these new 3 Series models are capable of running to 60 mph in about 7.2 seconds. While final EPA figures are still pending, the automaker also is projecting fuel economy numbers "could well exceed 40 mpg," which would make them by far the most frugal members of the family.
The 2014 BMW 328d Sedan and 328d Wagon will arrive in dealerships here in late summer, and both will offer BMW's xDrive all-wheel-drive system as an option. Expect pricing to be announced closer to the actual on-sale date.
BMW also used the 2014 328d reveal in New York reveal to announce partnerships with four new organizations, expanding the list of BMW Approved Apps that can be integrated with the Apple iPhone. These new additions include Audible, which delivers downloadable audio books and spoken-word content; the GPS-driven location sharing service Glympse; subscription music service Rhapsody and TuneIn Internet radio. It also presented a new 4G LTE mobile hotspot accessory which is expected to be offered on the new 328d models as well as the rest of the 3 Series family.
