It didn't take long for the first competition-spec Scion FR-S to show its race face. At the 2012 Detroit Auto Show the division unveiled a 600-horsepower version of the car purpose-built to contest the 2012 Formula DRIFT series. A collaborative effort between Scion Racing and GReddy -- a primo performance products manufacturer that has a long-time affiliation with Toyota -- this Super Scion will be driven by professional drifting ace,  Ken Gushi. Gushi, a veteran with 10 years of experience in the sport broke into the game at the age of 16. His first driving experience came three years earlier behind the wheel a Toyota Corolla AE86, the car that served as the conceptual inspiration for the Toyota 86 and its Scion FR-S alter ego.

Scion VP Jack Hollis also announced that beyond the Bluetooth Hands-Free technology and HD Radio that are now standard in all Scion models, the 2013 FR-S will be the first car to offer the new BeSpoke connected infotainment audio system, powered by Pioneer's Zypr. BeSpoke aims to offer an even higher level of connectivity with new features that provide access to an even wider variety of personalized content and services. According to Hollis, "Scion's new BeSpoke system will take in-car technology to the next level, offering owners the ability to be more connected."
