Impressing buyers in other parts of the world since 2009, the Porsche Cayenne Diesel made an appearance in New York to support an announcement that it will finally join the automaker's U.S. lineup effective with the 2013 model year. This new-for-America diesel variant of this luxury SUV will further expand a family that already includes the base Cayenne, Cayenne S, Cayenne S Hybrid and Cayenne Turbo models.
On sale here in September, the 2013 Porsche Cayenne Diesel is fitted with a 3.0-liter V6 turbo-diesel engine that cranks out 240 horsepower but a stout 406 lb-ft of peak torque from just 1,750 rpm, sufficient to let it run 7.2-second 0 to 60-mph sprints and hit 135 mph while still being able to tow up to 7,716 pounds and travel 740 miles on a single tank of fuel. The 50-state Cayenne oil-burner uses selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology to meet current Tier 2 BIN5 emissions requirements. Pricing for the 2013 Porsche Cayenne Diesel will start $56,725.
