You might not be able to tell at a glance, but the 2013 Nissan GT-R receives a series of subtle but effective upgrades that will add even more luster to its formidable legend. Well-focused modifications to its hand-built 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine add 15 horsepower to the mix, raising output to a ferocious 545 horsepower. Peak torque also rises from 448 to 463 lb-ft. Both gains come as the result of improved efficiencies in the engine's intake and electronic control systems coupled with less-restrictive intercooler plumbing. The GT-R's standard six-speed dual-clutch transmission also has been massaged a bit to reduce noise levels and deliver even better shift feel.
As before, all of that motive might transfers to each of the GT-R's super-sticky Dunlop Sports Max GT 600 DSST CTT tires via Nissan's stellar ATTESSA-E TS all-wheel drive system. Final drivetrain enhancement on the 2013 models involves a switch to the same high-performance differential lubricant that was specifically developed for use in Nissan GT-R racing models.
While offering no specifics, Nissan indicated that the carryover Bilstein DampTronic suspension system has been revised on the 2013 GT-R to add a new level of sophistication to its outstanding precision control. Buyers who step up from a baseline GT-R to the GT-R Black Edition also will find a new, more effective handmade dry-carbon rear spoiler in place, virtually the only exterior change that distinguishes a 2013 from a 2012 model. All 2013 Nissan GT-R variants also will come with a standard RearView Monitor and add blue accent lighting inside their tachometer surround to match the color of the shift-position light. While pricing has not yet been released, the first 2013 Nissan GT-R models will go on sale here in January.
