Moving to double the player count of its Infiniti Performance Line roster, Nissan's luxury division used the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance to announce that the 2013 Infiniti IPL G Convertible would join its recently introduced IPL G Coupe counterpart in the showroom starting next spring. Originally revealed in concept form at last year's Paris Auto Show, the production version of this striking drop top will be based on the Infiniti G37 Convertible enhanced with its own set of IPL upgrades.
Like the IPL G Convertible Concept displayed at the event, the volume-build variant will complement its three-piece power retractable lid with a more-potent IPL-spec version of the 3.7-liter V6 (which currently makes 348 horsepower in the IPL G Coupe), unique aerodynamic styling tweaks, fully sport-tuned suspension, bigger brakes, quicker steering and 19-inch IPL alloy wheels wrapped in sticky performance rubber. Based on the features roster of the IPL G Coupe, this open-air addition to the division's performance wing should also fortify its already generous list of standards with items like special paint colors, premium leather upholstery, Bose premium audio and the Infiniti Navigation System.
According to Ben Poore, the 2013 Infiniti IPL G Convertible will deliver "unique driving attributes from other Infiniti models, without adding stratospheric prices." More details will be forthcoming when the production version is shown at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November.
