Tesla Motors has released new details regarding the pricing and launch date of its upcoming Tesla Model S sedan. This electric-powered four-door is set to go on sale in the U.S. sometime during the first half of 2012. The automaker anticipates building about 5,000 units next year, launching the run with 1,000 special "Signature Series" vehicles that get unique visual and trim treatments as well as the top-line 300-mile range battery pack. Although Tesla has yet to release pricing in the Model S Signature Series, it has confirmed projected numbers for other versions of the car. The base 2012 Tesla Model S will come with a 160-mile-range battery pack and open at $54,700 before the $7,500 federal tax credit while the 230-mile upgrade version will start at approximately $64,700 and a 300-mile Model S will open around $87,400. European deliveries of the Tesla Model S are expected sometime in late 2012, however, right-hand-drive versions of the car won't hit the road until mid 2013.
