There's certainly no shortage of good news on the Mercedes-Benz product front for the 2012 model year. Much of it relates to the automaker's wide-scale adoption of various efficiency-enhancing powertrain upgrades like seven-speed automatic transmissions and the fitment of M-B's new 1.8-liter direct-injected turbocharged four-cylinder, naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 and 4.2-liter twin-turbo V8 engines. But for enthusiasts, the most welcome revelation concerns the return of the E63 AMG Estate. While Mercedes has not divulged many details regarding this new addition to the U.S. AMG family, we do know that it's set to arrive here in October, shares much of the basic feature set with the E63 AMG Sedan and comes standard with a glass panorama roof.
Like its sedan counterpart, the 2012 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG Estate is fitted with the new AMG 5.5-liter twin-turbo/directed injected V8 engine that makes 518 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. While high-energy hauling may be its forte, the new E63 AMG Wagon will ship that motive force to the rear wheels via the same mileage-maxing AMG seven-speed MCT automatic transmission as the E63 sedan and also be fitted with ECO start/stop technology. Pricing for the 2012 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG Estate -- as well as for the 2012 E63 AMG Sedan -- will be announced closer to the on-sale date.
