Making its first public appearance in New York, the 2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe shares virtually all of the fundamental styling and design elements found on its recently revealed four-door cousin, but offers them in an even sportier body configuration.
Like the 2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Sedan, this new Coupe counterpart is fitted with the same 6.2-liter naturally aspirated AMG V8 that makes 451 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque. Backed by the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission with its three (S/S+/M) modes plus "Race Start" function, this potent engine can take the C63 AMG Coupe from 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds.
Like the sedan, the Coupe can be fitted with the optional AMG Development Package that brings engine tweaks like forged pistons and connecting rods plus a lightweight crankshaft culled from the SLS AMG. The changes help bump pony count to 481, trim 0-60 mph interval to 4.3 ticks and raise top speed from 155 to 174 mph, both being electronically limited.
Other common characteristics shared between these two AMG-spec C-Class chargers include an assortment of bolder bodywork enhancements, a full AMG suspension makeover -- including wider track dimensions, recalibrated geometry, revised steering, driver-selectable/tri-mode stability control mapping and lightweight 18-inch AMG alloy wheels with 235/40 and 255/35 front/rear tires -- plus AMG performance brakes.
That same sense of focused purpose carries over to the cabin of the 2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe. An SLS-style AMG sport steering wheel, bespoke instruments and custom trim elements are matched with deeply bolstered sport buckets up front and twin "buckettes" with fold-down backs in the rear, covered in either an M-B Tex and Alcantara-like Dinamica combination or optional full leather. The new C63 AMG Coupe will come with nine airbags and ATTENTION ASSIST and offer the latest version of M-B's in-car COMAND telematics/infotainment/navigation systems with real-time capabilities plus Adaptive Highbeam Assist, PARKTRONIC with parking guidance, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Assist, Keyless Go, a limited-slip differential and various wood/carbon-fiber trim elements as options.
The 2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe will arrive in M-B dealer showrooms this September. Pricing will be announced closer to its on-sale date.
