Recalling the original 1970 concept vehicle of the same name, the 2012 Dodge Challenger SRT8 Yellow Jacket is a limited-edition exercise spun from the baseline Challenger SRT8 model. Set for its full reveal in Los Angeles, this appropriately named super coupe boasts a unique Stinger Yellow exterior set off with black accent elements. According to Ralph Gilles, President and CEO - SRT Brand and Motorsports, that high-profile combo "speaks directly to the performance enthusiast who appreciates a memorable and collectible color that helps deliver even more excitement and exclusivity."
Motivation for the Yellow Jacket comes from the same 6.4-liter Hemi V8 in the baseline Challenger SRT8, which sends its 470 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels by either a standard Tremec six-speed manual transmission or an optional five-speed automatic that also brings steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. While either engine/trans pairing also includes a limited-slip differential and is capable of sending this striking coupe from 0-60 mph in less than five seconds, opting for the autoshifter also brings Fuel Saver Technology that can deactivate four cylinders during low-stress driving.
To sharpen its reflexes, the 2012 Yellow Jacket also benefits from a new SRT-spec adaptive damping suspension. Specifically tuned for the Challenger SRT8 392 and offering driver-selectable "Auto" and "Sport" modes, Dodge says it gives the car the quickest turn-in and most agile handling of any SRT product currently on the market. To further heighten its fun-to-drive index, the package also includes a three-mode electronic stability control system, big Brembo brakes and lightweight 20-inch forged alloy wheels wrapped on Goodyear Eagle RSA or optional Goodyear F1 Supercar tires.
Inside, the Yellow Jacket features standard leather seats with a contrasting Stinger Yellow trim band, silver accent stitching and embroidered Yellow Jacket logos. Dealers will begin taking orders for the 2012 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 Yellow Jacket starting next month and deliveries will commence early in 2012.
