Just in time to leverage its reappearance as Bumblebee in the third and latest Autobot epic, “Transformers: Dark of the Moon,” Chevrolet has taken the wraps off its 2012 Transformers Special Edition Camaro Coupe. While the 3D movie opens this week, buyers will have to wait until July to begin placing orders for this “Bumblebee” replicar and deliveries will start in September.
“The Transformers franchise has helped introduce Camaro -- and Chevrolet -- to a whole new generation of fans,” said Rick Scheidt, vice president of Chevrolet marketing. “Its role in the films helped make the Camaro the best-selling sports car in America, and one of the best-known cars of any kind around the world.” To maintain that international appeal, Chevy will market the Transformers Special Edition Camaro in the U.S., Canada, China, Europe, Japan, the Middle East and South America.
As with its predecessor, the upcoming 2012 Chevrolet Transformers Special Edition Camaro Coupe will be offered as a package on the 2LT and 2SS trim lines with Rally Yellow Paint. In addition to all of the kit included in the RS Appearance Package, this $3,000 upgrade will bring full-length black body stripes, a special high-wing rear spoiler, 20-inch black-painted alloy wheels wrapped in summer tires, and signature “Autobot Shield” logos on the center caps and front quarter panels. The up-line cabin of this Transformers Special Edition Camaro is done in black leather accented with yellow stitching and also sports Autobot Shield logos on the center console lid and embroidered into the front headrests.
