Beyond a potential, slight increase in power and efficiency (numbers for the U.S. model haven't been announced but the European model gets a 10-horsepower bump to 210), the GTI's next powertrain isn't drastically different than today's. Still, we're including it in our list of the car's five biggest improvements because it's just that good. The truly revolutionary six-speed, dual-clutch transmission delivers fast, smooth, fingertip shifts, while a world-renowned turbocharged engine combines light weight, high efficiency and ever-present power. A six-speed manual transmission will still be available.
