Although sharing the same 113.4-inch wheelbase as the CTS-V Sport Sedan, the new Coupe is nearly two inches lower and shorter. Common headlamps, grille and front fenders aside, it also boasts a completely unique exterior treatment that imparts an even more aggressive character to the division's Art and Science design theme. The most prominent differences are the Coupe's more steeply raked windshield and back glass. The absence of a B-pillar further emphasizes its bolder persona which is complemented by a high-mount brake light housing that also doubles as a functional rear spoiler.
Inside, this hot new Cad coupe shows similar distinctive touches, sharing only the dashboard with its V-rated four-door sibling. Hand-stitched leather seat, dash and door trim gets paired with suede-like microfiber material on the steering wheel, shift knob and inserts on its four, well-formed, individual seats. Hard-core enthusiasts can also swap the standard front buckets for 14-way Recaro sport seats -- and those seeking a higher visual profile can even opt for an exclusive Saffron color treatment. In addition to its long list of comfort/convenience touches, the CTS-V Coupe boasts an advanced navigation system, Bose digital Surround sound audio package, 40-gigabyte hard drive and Bluetooth phone integration.
Like the CTS-V Sport Sedan, the Coupe gets is motivation from a 6.2-liter supercharged/intercooled V8 that makes 556-horsepower and 551 lb.-ft. of torque. Paired with either a Tremec six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed Hydra-Matic automatic that features steering-wheel mounted paddle shifters, the most powerful V8 ever offered in any Cadillac can send the CTS-V Coupe from 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds.
Helping put that power down to best advantage, the CTS-V Coupe is fitted with a custom-tuned version of Cadillac's Magnetic Ride Control that allows the driver to select from either Touring or Sport modes. Stopping power is equally formidable. Standard Brembo brakes use a unique dual-cast aluminum/iron technology for the calipers that pairs strength with lightness and nets slotted-vented rotors that help enhance stopping power while eliminating fade. To maximize grip, the CTS-V Coupe wraps its custom 19-inch alloy wheels in bespoke Michelin Pilot SP2 tires.
Bryan Nesbitt, Cadillac general manager, says the CTS-V Coupe "marries our most potent and sophisticated technology with our most dramatic production design. Its combination of visual and technical attributes is designed to create a very compelling choice for luxury sports car consumers." Pricing won't be released until closer to its early-summer on-sale date, but expect this hard-charging Cad to open in the $55,000-$60,000 range.
