2009 New York Auto Show: 2010 Land Rover LR4

Even though it features the same basic sheetmetal and architecture as the LR3, Land Rover is calling the LR4 a fourth-generation model and "the most capable Land Rover ever." Behind a softer but more detailed front end, the LR4 matches a more powerful new 375-horsepower, 5.0-liter V8 engine with a revised six-speed automatic transmission. Helping to better exploit the 75 additional horsepower are revised suspension, steering and brake systems, as well as an updated Terrain Response system that provides five different settings to address almost any different type of driving situation, from cruising to rock crawling. New wheels and tail lights complement the new face, while a redesigned passenger cabin incorporates more soft-touch materials, fewer buttons and ambient lighting in an environment that feels more luxury-like and less military than before. Technological upgrades abound, but one of the coolest is a five-camera system that gives the driver a 360-degree view around the LR4. In a Land Rover, such a system will surely be put to use in towing and off-road situations, not just in tight mall parking lots.
