In dealerships by late summer but making its world premiere in The Big Apple this week, the all-new 2010 GMC Terrain aims to grab a slice of the burgeoning compact crossover market. Available in SLE and SLT trims, this aggressively styled five-passenger hauler will be offered in front- and all-wheel drive configuration and give buyers the choice of a 2.4-liter/182-horspower Ecotec four-cylinder or 3.0-liter/264-horse V6. Both engines use direct fuel injection and are backed by efficient six-speed automatic transmissions. The base engine also adds a special ECO button on the console that lowers the lockup speed on the torque converter to further boost its economy to an anticipated 30 mpg on the highway. The Terrain's spacious cabin is impressively appointed and includes standards like a MultiFlex sliding/fold-down split rear seat, OnStar and SIRIUS Satellite Radio, USB/AUX/Bluetooth connectivity and a rear-view camera. Also in the mix are a programmable power rear liftgate, remote starting, DVD-based dual-screen rear-seat entertainment system and a touch-screen navigation package with seven-inch color screen and a 40GB hard drive.
