Only a few months after Chrysler stopped building the Dodge Magnum -- which had been the closest thing to a traditional wagon offered by any of the domestic manufacturers -- Cadillac has unveiled the CTS Sport Wagon. Scheduled to go on sale in the spring of 2009, the long-roofed CTS will offer all (or most) of the performance, style, comfort and technological conveniences of the CTS sedan, while upping the ante with added versatility and a bigger sunroof. Powertrain options will include 304- and 263-horsepower V6 engines, six-speed manual and automatic transmissions, plus rear- and all-wheel drive - the latter of which is an especially key feature for all the wagon lovers up north. The CTS wagon is actually a fraction of an inch shorter than the sedan but delivers almost double the cargo space, while partially hidden roof rails add even more capacity. By arriving with impeccable timing in an era of record gas prices, will the flexible and efficient CTS Sport Wagon be the car to kickoff a wagon renaissance? As wagon fans, we'll be keeping our fingers crossed.
