Priced "somewhere below the Civic Hybrid," the 2010 Honda Insight looks to launch a new era in affordability for hybrids when it goes on sale in April. The compact hatchback will team a 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 98 horsepower and 123 lb.-ft. of torque with a new Honda Integrated Motor Assist system that can add up to 13 horses and 68 lb.-ft. of torque as needed. Other enhancements, including electric power-steering/air-con systems, cylinder deactivation and auto idle stop help it earn 40/43 mpg city/highway ratings. Inside, a nicely finished cabin offers room for five and a long list of standard and available equipment including a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, navigation, Bluetooth/USB connectivity and a paddle-shifted CVT. An Ecological Drive Assist System helps encourage frugal driving and a driver-selectable "ECON" mode that optimizes CVT, throttle, idle stop, air and cruise control operation for maximum efficiency.
