First Look: 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback and Sportback Ralliart

We like the Lancer. We like the Lancer Ralliart. We like hatchbacks, too. So we should be more excited for the 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback and Lancer Sportback Ralliart that Mitsubishi unveiled at the Paris Auto Show and may end up bringing to America. To our eyes, the Sportback's gently sloping, soft rear end just doesn't mesh with the angular and aggressive front end that we're already fond of. We'd have preferred a profile more consistent with that of the Subaru Impreza or Volkswagen GTI, for instance. Regardless, the Lancer liftback will indeed deliver greater cargo versatility than the sedan, and that's a good thing.
