Before GM car czar Bob Lutz introduced the range-topping G8 GXP, he made light of the fact that Pontiac once promised "excitement" and then showed customers a four-cylinder Grand Am. Those days appear to be behind us for now, as Pontiac is putting its muscle where its mouth is. In addition to a 6.2-liter V8 good for an estimated 402 horsepower, the G8 GXP will offer the lineup's only manual transmission. Steering, brakes and suspension are all tuned to take full advantage of the added performance. Expect a starting price somewhere in the neighborhood of $40,000 when the G8 GXP goes on sale late in 2008.
