2008 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid: Version 1.0

While we expect GM's new 2-Mode Hybrid technology to make its way into the engine bay of the new Malibu, first up is the hybrid powertrain that first appeared in the 2007 Saturn Aura Green Line. In the Malibu this 164-horsepower powertrain will deliver city/highway fuel economy of 24/32, figures that are just two mph better than those of the sedan's 169-horsepower four-cylinder base engine. Unlike most of today's hybrid systems, this one can't provide propulsion on electricity alone, but does provide automatic start/stop functionality at stop lights. Expect to see the Malibu Hybrid early in 2008, priced around $23,000.
