The first M3 featured a four-cylinder engine. The next two boasted six cylinders. The latest has been fitted with a 4.0-liter V8 that puts out 414 horsepower at a stratospheric 8,300 rpm and can achieve 60 mph in 4.8 seconds, according to BMW
. One of our favorite details about the new engine is that while it's bigger and more powerful than its six-cylinder predecessor, it's also lighter and more fuel efficient. Other highlights include a sophisticated set of performance-enhancing electronics, many of which are customizable by the driver. Expect the M3 in spring of 2008 at a starting price in the mid-$50,000 range.
