"I bought it new in 2004 and have replaced tires, battery and brakes once. The driver side window doesn't work in extreme cold but no other issues. It is comfortable, reliable and good looking."

"and support underneath all new. This vehicle has been serviced every three thousand miles and has never had oil added between changes. Drives perfect. I purchased the vehicle as a program vehicle with 16000 miles on it. It has no issues more than a wash job."

Pros: "Like riding on a cloud, very nice handling, ..."

Cons: "What to replace the thing with?"

Early 2014

"I bought this SUV new in Dec 2003. And, hit the road almost, immediately. The failures are listed below, but the Rainier was there when we needed it. And, it has been coast to coast, several times, plus north and south. The service guy says that the brakes are far from needing work (mostly highway miles). I have never had problems in weather (summer or winter) or in the mountains (it does get up the hills). Too bad they quit making the thing. I'm looking but am not sure what to drive. In the meantime, I intend to run this as far as it'll take me. Of course, I have been regular with service plus tire replacement. I had the transmission serviced at 100K (what is the workhorse?) and then at 170K. Plugs? I actually waited until 134K and kept records (performance did increase a little after that - the plugs were still serviceable). I waited on the belt until 150+ (still looked good, but that is a crucial part). It is funny. I did have the O2 problem which dealt with the first few minutes of warm up but did not get that fixed for a couple of years. Why? I knew what the code meant. Beside,it was not rich enough during warm up to worry. Since it was fixed (two years ago, the problem has not re-occurred). On the other hand, when the dash unit went, I had to get that taken care of (we did, for a couple of short trips, judge speed with a stop watch and milepost markers). Of late, the battery went dead (second one) and the mode actuator froze (coincidental?). But, other than those things, it has hummed along. I have been using this vehicle for studying longevity (blog, etc.). ... Lots of the miles were Interstate (open country). Is that a major factor? One day we drove 16 hours, taking a quick break every 4 hours. Cannot ask for more than that. ... Aside, I'm an experienced driver who accelerates in a controlled fashion, brakes similarly, and never has had the tach above 2.4K (except for a few circumstances where it was necessary - you can actually climb hills (mountains) without straining the engine)."

"Simple controls, does not show wear and tear easily, turning rage is good for U turns, very dependable. Interia lights are on a timer so your battery doesn't go dead... Too bad this model is discontinued."

"I have own this suv for a while. I am extremely pleased with it's performance. I would recommend this to any one that wants a classy suv. I also own a FORD EXPLORER, and I think Buick Rainer is a much better SUV. Just keep the oil changed and you will have a SUV, that will last a very longtime.Sensational ride and comfort."
