I own this car - My approximate mileage is 180,000
overall rating 9 of 10rating detailsPros: "Value, fun, practical and good looking"
Cons: "The cup holders are worthless"
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 9
"I've had this car for almost 7 years after buying it used and still love to jump in a take it somewhere. Every drive is a kick and I've loved to take it on road trips. Even though it's known for its performance, it's got so much room I can fold down the back seats and carry 10' lumber, bikes, etc. It's low key and still those who know cars know that it's potent. Sometimes folks will want to race and that's up to you. Me, I've never lost. The bad news - it's a dinosaur. A fossil fuel swiller. The not such bad news - it gets about 19MPG overall, so there's little penalty for the (outrageous) performance. If you care about the earth, drive it 20% of the time and drive the Prius the other 80%. That's what I do. One more note. Of all the M5's the E39 is considered the high water mark. They kept getting faster, but got heavy and that's no good for handling or MPG."

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 122,000
overall rating 10 of 10rating detailsPros: "Power, Handling, Luxury, Engineering/Build Quality"
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10
"Firstly, the BLue Book value of the car is way off. (Sorry Kelley, but you're off by a whopping 60% for this car make/model.) This car is a dream to drive and has all the luxury features most folks would ever want. It is expensive to maintain but when maintained as described by BMW, it is very reliable. It seems that BMW did not spare any expense when engineering this car and I highly recommend driving one if you are a car enthusiast. It is particularly good at high speeds and is geared for it."

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 69,000
overall rating 10 of 10rating detailsPros: "Best deal for one of the fastest rides out there"
Cons: "maintenance can be high but you'll forget all that"
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10
"I have always been a BMW fan/owner. Although they are not the best in terms of reliability (mostly electrical), it'd definitely help you remove whatever burden you carry in life, the moment you start driving it. Acceleration, handling, feeling are race car experience. If you have kid and still enjoy spirit driving, nothing beat this 4 doors machine. I used to own a 911 and had to let it go after having a kid. Now I have found something which is faster which the whole family can comfortably enjoy together. Definitely worth the buy especially now pricing is at its lowest(found mine with 69K miles with rare Oxford Green, fully loaded, extremely well kept for only $18K). Don't worry about the potential high maintenance. You have saved a lot already getting it used as the guy before you had to throw out 80 larges for it."

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 114,000
overall rating 10 of 10rating detailsPros: "Power, Engineering, Style, Finish, Functionality"
Cons: "Weak Cupholders"
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 3
"I don't understand why anyone would sell this vehicle. (I got lucky in that I bought a used one from a private seller with 110,000 miles. After purchasing it I took it to the dealer and they described the condition as incredible. It is gorgeous too with the Lemans Blue and Caramel interior.) Anyhow, I drive it occasionally because I am afraid of spoiling myself to death. The quality of the engineering that went into it seems to be impossible to beat. The car calms my mood just being inside of it. Being at a red light in the pole position has become a moment of excitement."

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 85,000
overall rating 10 of 10rating detailsPros: "Amazing performance, decent mileage, can't get mor"
Cons: "Flimsy upholders, no spare tire"
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 9
"Very tight, and runs like new even after 85k miles. Broken in well, so never uses oil. No spare tire is a source for concern. Awesome performance when called on, still 24mpg on trips."

"The 2001 BMW M5 is unlike any BMW I have ever owned. I have owned three including two BMW M3's I have driven new BMW's and this car is still exceptional."
