Pros: "This 1995 525i is a wonderful car."

Cons: "Not for un-realistic poseurs."

"I bought this car in 2010 at 107,000 miles.I'm the 2nd owner and it had all service records in the glove compartment. The next recommended service was the belts and pulleys and sure enough,3 months later, they started to make noise. Had them replaced ($400.00) - no surprise - and I've been enjoying this exceptional car ever since, Quiet, smooth,Great road car with brakes to match and I do my own tune-ups, oil changes, minor suspension part replacements in my driveway. The later series 5's are engineered to the point where you can't do this. The E34's were the last Owner/driver cars that weren't at they mercy of your local BMW shop.I am a former road racing driver and mechanic and am 64 years old. At 176,000+ miles, I love this car. There is BMW and then there is everything else.( 1995 525i ) - The 530's and 540's and especially the 7 series are MUCH more expensive to maintain."

"I love cars. I tried so many of them. So many failed me on the way home, even after taking care of them. But the 1994 BMW 540i is so far the best. With so many miles, it still drives better than the newer cars I drove. Even though it is old and has a lot of rust, I love it, for it is very reliable, fast, beautiful and enjoyable. I salute whoever designed and engineered this car."

Pros: "great highway vehicle, old time luxury feel"

Cons: "does not handle well in icy conditions"

"Powerful 2.5L, 6 cylinder engine, clean interior, minor defects exterior, need of repaint, and new or refinished alloy wheels. Handles good, but not in snow for RWD. Have owned the 525 for seven years and always kept up the maintenance replacing small parts, brakes, fluids."

Pros: "power, comfort, interior, fun 6 speed transmission"

Cons: "very expensive to repair"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"If you enjoy driving, this car cannot be beat. If you prefer to feel like you are in a moving sofa, get a different vehicle. Amazing power, comfort, reliability. It gets great looks when it goes to the BMW dealer for servicing. People can't believe it is a 20 year old vehicle; but it does cost to maintain this car... well worth it though."

BMW 540 fitted as camera car on 17 mile drive.

"Family of 4 huge trunk full of luggage will cruise all day at 75mph and get 25mpg. Take out the family add a friend and 2 sets of golf clubs and go from LA to Monterey in 4 hours. With the tranny in "Sport" mode it is as quick as 99% of the new cars out there. Put it in drive and it is a little sleepy but will get 25 mpg on the highway. Not so much around town. To get it really sharp add billstein sport shocks, a very good set of tires and upgrade the stereo. There are very few cars I have driven that are superior."

Pros: "GREAT CAR!"

Cons: "NONE!"

"This car is my high school sweetheart. This was the first car I bought when I first started driving in high school. Its been 6 years later and shes still the best! The frame is all steel so I feel really safe in it. Great on gas. All I suggest is maintain it and it will take care of you. I do my own oil and filter change with full synthetic oil every 3-4 months (Will make the engine last longer), brake pads, ect. One problem with these model I heard is the coolant/ radiator. Mine went bad so I replaced it and now its even better!"
