Pros: "Fun to drive, still looks current after 10 years"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"I've loved owning this car. Handles great. Fast. Granted I only drive it 5-7K miles a year and keep it in a garage, but it has been very reliable. Parts are expensive but then so are those for a Porsche or Audi. Leather has held up very well. Top is great."

Pros: "Very nice driving car"

Cons: "expensive to buy and maintain"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 9

"I've owned it for 5 years (bought used in very nice condition) It runs beautifully and is a delight to drive. The ZHP package gives it a bit tighter handling and a small boost in power over the standard 330. It is much more pleasant to drive than the E46 M3 while retaining most of the usable performance. Other than expense, my only gripe is the lack of an LSD, which is ridiculous for a performance car at its price."

Pros: "Four door sports car, non better"

Cons: "very expensive car to service after warranty"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 8

"Great gas consumption, 33 highway 26 mixed driving. This car handles like a dream. The only problem so far is the fan switch which has failed which renders the ac unusable. This is a common problem and expensive to repair. This my third BMW the last one a 525 was traded after 16 years and 80k miles with minor issues. I am thinking of trading for the new x3 in 2015"

Pros: "Good value, power, handling, mpg"

Cons: "Lackluster interior and radio, expensive repairs"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 9

"This E46 330ci hits a homerun in its suspension geometry that you get "The Ultimate Driving Machine" is not just marketing hype. The I6 engine has a broad torque curve that pulls hard from 3k rpm all the way to 6k. And the gearing is well suited with great pull in 4,5, and even 6th. All the goods where the goods matter. The problems: the interior, including the dash, is 10 years behind the times. While the brushed aluminum trim pieces in my example are a bright spot, they are overshadowed by the eye sore of a center console. The E46 is notorious for its electronic throttle that leaves a nasty hesitation at exactly 4k rpm if in Wide Open Throttle. The sound system, even their premium system from Harmon Kardan, is below sub par with no base what so ever. And beware it you have the factory Nav option bc the OEM encodes their radio signal via DSP that makes incompatible with most aftermarket radios. Some minor repairs between 65k-145k include ball joint failure, water pump failure, battery failure caused by slow leak in sunroof, and most recently cracked antifreeze reservoir. Be prepared for hefty repair bills and massively expensive parts. Oil changes are $100 thanks to synthetic oils. All-in-all, you get a lot of value for the money. And in the past 5 years of owning it, I've averaged 23mpg all city mile commuting."
