"Wow! my 2000 Audi S4 is so amazingly FAST! The twin turbo 2.7 L V6 in this small 4 door sedan delivers amazing performance. I love the handling. Sport suspension really performs around every corner, but is a bit rough. The seats are not very comfortable for long road trips. I mostly use mine for short commutes racing around town. Love it when muscle cars think they can take me, big surprise when the light turns green :) Find a good audi/VW mechanic, don't bother with the dealerships for service if yours is past the warranty."
"I have had my 00 S4 for 5 yrs. Sure it's fun to drive... when it's running. This car has killed my pocket book! For most of the time I have owned it, it has been a nice looking boat anchor. After 15K in repairs the check engine light finally went off... I'm afraid to drive it to see what will be next! Unless you like doing your own repairs (even if you do, the price of parts will make you puke!) do not even consider this car! But if you do have all the money in the world and can endure the down time, it is fun... WHEN it's running."
"2002 S4 - going on 4 years as 2nd owner; 1st owned for 3 years. Completely stock, Tiptronic.
Reliability: 1 minor trans problem, otherwise no issues. Engine is bulletproof, as long as you take care of it and let turbos warm up/cool down.
Quality: top-notch, better quality than most new cars, even at 7 years old. Interior will match or better than any new luxury car.
Performance: still faster than most new performance cars; Quattro is unfair advantage; Tiptronic is fun in 'manual' mode. Passing on highway is effortless. Fuel economy is okay around city.
Styling: a little dated; classic Bauhaus styling that holds up well.
Comfort: front seats are very comfortable, especially on long trips. Back seats are cramped for large adults.
Overall: awesome car; is so good in all areas. Very reliable, but repairs can be expensive. Will blow people away on the highway, acceleration at higher speeds is awesome. Needs a little extra TLC, but will reward you with years of fun."
"2001 Audi S4 - Owned it from new - great car for thw first 4 years while it had "zero cost" maintainence. Once out of warranty every service/oil change cost $1500 or more. Last 3 years of ownership cost an average of $3500/year to keep on the road. Last bill in April 2010 cost $4k, that was the last straw- it had to go. Interior design best in class when new but it showed a lot of signs of wearing after 9 years.I would have expected better for the price. Also we had water ingress problems from sunroof - rear liner was replaced twice. Despite the ridiculous maintainence costs the performance was awesome - recommend anyone buying an Audi - enjoy while it is under warranty but get rid soon after . Alternatively evaluate the extended warranty"
"For the money this car is hard to beat. It's not a boy-racer car like the other turbo offerings from the Japanese manufacturers. It's more refined and more grown up. The extra power can be had with some upgrades and modifications. I disagree with other reviewers because this is not a true sports car, but a high performance GT. On the highway, in the snow, in the rain, or around town this car does it all. Passing on the interstate is always a blast when the bi-turbos are spooled up. Quattro makes big SUV's and 4X4's look stupid in foul weather, especially snow. From the headlights to the rear fog light everything works well in this car. This car requires an expensive timing belt service ~ 70K, so if you just want to change oil and add gas this is not the car for you. Vorsprung durch Technik!"
