"What a fun car to drive. Yes it has poor fuel mileage and needs constant mechanical attention, but show me a German luxury car that doesn't. I read many reviews on BMW and Mercedes and they all complain about the same thing. The Audi is definitely over-engineered, but the quality and workmanship are first class. Don't buy this car unless you have a pocketful of extra cash. If you are committed to take good care of your Audi, it will return the favor. There aren't many cars that provide the style comfort and performance in one package. Enjoy....."
Pros: "Great handling even in the worst of conditions"
Cons: "Very heavy and at times may seem underpowered."

"This car is a little heavy and that can be a negative factor when looking for speed or gas mileage. The cars weight helps it keep on the road even in the worst conditions and with the addition of quattro you will not find a better AWD car for this price. My car is still going strong and it doesn't seem to be giving in anytime soon. With heating steering and a full Bose surround system there is no reason to change cars anytime soon. Highly recommended!"
"I love this vehicle completely! I have owned this since $140,000 to now $162,000 miles over 18 months. To make sure the car is reliable, I have replaced the timing belt (just in case), brakes-all around! Problem items....radio quit... $85 on ebay for new factory BOSE!.....and front axels to change all the CV joints at once (actually very reasonable priced) , and a $90 turn signal switch (ouch) Also had to replace on leaking turbo....(left side) turbo was scary costly, but I found a pair on Ebay. (kept the right side for - just in case) The total investment has been $3900 in repairs, but no vehicle payments....the car was only $5400!!
I think this car will run for a while now, and people believe it is much newer and expensive, and I have less than $10,000 in it! The last guy didn't do much maintenance on it..........
Don't let the other reviews turn you away from these cars!!!! Find a great independent mechanic, and enjoy!!
This car is sooo comfortable, fun, solid, quiet and really classic styling!"
"The A6 2.7t 6-spd. may just be the sleeper of the century. Scary fast and, with the sport suspension, carves up roads nearly like a Corvette. Scads of room in the back seat and trunk, it sets the standard for interior packaging for all cars in its class. And the beautiful interior shows that Audi design is also the class leader.
I bought mine used with 60k miles on it. It's loaded except for NAV. The Bose system sounds awesome (when you're not entertaining yourself listening to the 5-valve-per-cylinder engine wind out). Imagine, 250+ horsepower from 162 cu. inches! And the traction, in all weather conditions, will permanently convert you to AWD if you live in areas where it matters.
YES, repairs are expensive no matter who does them for you though finding a qualified private shop can lessen he sting compared to the dealer(s), who aren't always that reliable (they're either hot or cold). But if you maintain them properly, I believe they will easily go beyond 300k+ miles, even with the turbos.
I don't think you can go wrong with this car if you want it ALL. I will concede that the BMW 540i is a more satisfying driver's car, but not by much, and it lacks all of the other attributes that makes this Audi the BEST ALL-AROUND CAR I've ever owned!
(NOTE: I rated the 'comfort' category a 4 out of 5 because my car has the 'Sport' package (suspension and seats which make the car needlessly busy on less than perfect roads.)"
