"I owned this car for 8 years. It was the most expensive, problematic car I have ever owned- but I loved driving it."

Pros: "safe, reliable, fast, gorgeous. U get what u pay 4"

Cons: "expensive up front, but the investment pays u back"

"Beautiful, fun to drive, reliable, safe - feels like a turbo-charged little tank on the highway even if in a snowstorm. Always heads where you want to go fast and stable no matter the weather conditions. You get what you pay for - we bought it new from the dealer in 2002 for $32K and kept every service interval - and have been rewarded by a perfect driving experience in return. Fit and finish is what one expects from the top German auto manufacturers - and after 14 years this car can go on for another 14 years. Audi/VW/Porsche sure know what they're doing."

Pros: "Fun to drive get a warranty"

"I dearly loved my little convertible. Bought it 3 years old, certified and drove it 8 years. Before warranty ran out I extended the warranty to 70,000 miles. And am so glad I did. Had to replace 3 different switches in the convertible top and the transmission. After driving this beautiful car for 8 years someone rear-ended me and totaled it."

Access to replace the timing belt requires the front nose to be removed.

"I've owned this car since new. It still runs and drives like it did when new with ~220k on the odo. It does require a lot of attention when it comes to maintenance and repairs. It is in the garage on jack stands about every 3rd weekend replacing another failing component. It may sound awful and would be if I had no mechanical aptitude or ability to do my own repairs. I find it to be rather easy to work on. There are many, "Boy Racer" web sites dedicated to Audis and there is someone that has already documented, in detail, the required steps for all repairs I've done. And there is a sense of satisfaction in doing my own work. I spent about $300 on clutch parts and tools. A reputable shop or dealer will charge up to $1800 for the clutch replacement. Bottom line: I would not recommend this car for those that can't do some of their own repairs. I would highly recommend this car for those that enjoy driving an older well balanced machine that may require dirty hands and scratched knuckles every few weeks keeping it roadworthy. My son now has an A4 and he has learned a lot about how to diagnose and do his own repairs too. I good car for this type of learning experience."
