"I bought my A4 1.8 T, wagon used. It was a 2004 with 42000 miles on it and I bought it in 2008. I loved the look, proportions, interior and performance with the mileage it got, 24 -28 MPG. Ran great for about 2 year. Then it had all kinds of electrical grimlins. Passenger power window has gone out 2x's. Ignition coils have gone out on all four cylinders multiple times, at least 10 times. Back hatch has trouble latching, sun roof leaks. Engine light comes on all the time-mechanics can not get it to stay off. Engine randomly sputters while driving. When it runs good it is a blast. At this time I don't trust it. I've owned previous VW products and been satisfied, so I thought I was moving up scale with the Audi. I'm looking to get rid of it and move to something more dependable. I usually own my cars to about 250000 miles."

Cons: "Expensive parts"

"I bought my Audi A4 in early march of 2013, before that it took me weeks looking for the right car and looking through all kinds of different reviews to see how future cost, maintenance, and reliability is on them. At the end I picked the 2004 Audi A4 Quattro. What really grabbed my attention right away when looking between Audi x BMW x Mercedes was how much newer the A4 looked. Compared to the other cars in the same year its body looked newer and gave you the vibe that it was a newer car. Relatively not expensive and has that sporty luxury look to it. Maintenance on it isn’t the cheapest. But most foreign cars aren’t anyway. Any engine parts or even body parts well cost you a good amount of money if you don’t shop around for a better deal since parts aren’t the easiest to come by, but that’s what you should expect in a foreign car like that. Its Quattro 1.8T engine only take highest gas level or you’ll start having some major engine problems. Oil changes on it aren’t too expensive even though just like that gas it only take full synthetic oil or you’ll start hearing weird noises coming out of the engine. Being on top of your regular maintenance should keep you out of major repairs. It’s a reliable car when taken care of but does require a lot of attention. When it comes to major repairs I messed up my transmission about 5 months after buying it. I woke up one morning and it just wasn’t driving right. I simply ignored it for a couple days and the car started switching between drive and neutral at random times. Its transmission job cost me about $1800, with a used transmission that came with 6 months warranty on it. You’ll want to keep an eye out for the timing belt if your cars getting close to a 100,000mi. a job like this on any other car wouldn’t cost you much but when it comes to the A4 the installation cost well hurt you since its unreachable unless you remove the whole front bumper. If you’re doing that job you’d rather throw in the extra money it would cost to replace the water pump since you’d have to go through the same procedure to reach it and you wouldn’t want to pay for the same job twice. Compared to the 2004 BMW 3 series, the A4 looks a lot more newer than it even though there the same year. The A4 comes with front wheel drive unless you upgrade to its Quattro AWD feature. But with BMW without the upgrade to its x-drive AWD feature you’re getting a car with rear wheel drive. The A4 well drive a lot smoother over and through snow, and is less likely to slide around over ice or a rainy day. The BMW has a bigger engine at 2.5L running with 184 Hp, but if it’s a bigger engine you’re looking for you could move over to the Audi A4 3.0L engine running with 220 hp. The Audi A4 comes with a 6 disc CD changer that I found really useful instead of having cds stashed away and damaging them. Leather and a full slide sunroof. Fog lights and power seats, with front heated seats. Something I did not like about the interior of the car was the spray that they use over the interior plastic components. It's hard to find an older Audi that this covering has not started to come off because of normal wear and tear. You see it normally on the radio buttons and light switches. Another minor problem was when you start to accelerate; you don't see a power boost till the turbo kicks in at about 2 rpm or so. So trying to pull into traffic can be a problem sometimes. But once the turbo kicks in it defiantly gets you up in mph very quickly. I don’t know if that’s the way the transmission was made or just because it has a good amount of miles on it. But even after getting my new transmission in feeling the same thing. Other than those things I have had fun with the car. I bought it to have a young sporty car that wasn’t too expensive and easy on gas but something that id still have fun driving. Even though it is on the smaller size it fits 4 adults easy and 5 with a little less comfort. It's comfortable to drive on longer trips, it is quiet inside which I really liked, It has a great sound system for being stock. I never had problems with blind spots in the car; it’s really open and allows you to see your surroundings. The trunk space is surprisingly really big for a smaller car too. It handles really well and is easy to drive. I feel like the Audi A4 combines a high quality with a luxury design and is really on the top of its class. It has great performance at a reasonable price. It’s no doubt one of the most respected car in its class. It delivers great performance with great features that’s usually found in higher priced luxury cars. With that in mind the A4 is a really balanced car all around that’ll grab people attention with its bright and extra fog lights and nice shaped brake lights. Very reliable in bad weather with its Quattro feature and well only have your love grow for it with time if taken care of. If you’re looking for a strong small luxury car that looks expensive but won’t break the bank the A4 is the way to go. If I had to do it all over again and look for a car it would definitely win me over again. I really would recommend this car for someone trying to buy a sporty newer body type car, that’s relatively cheap and will have all heads turning as it drives by."

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 67,000overall rating 10 of 10rating details
Pros: "Gas mileage, speed, comfort, luxury"
Cons: "High maintenance costs"
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10
"I bought this car 6 months ago from the original owner with all maintenance records. The car was beautifully cared for and loved. The 6 spd manual shifts so smooth, and the handling and suspension give a wonderfully comfortable yet sporty ride. With small aftermarket changes the car really turned heads. ( window tint, new rims) the only issue that is faced with this car is that a very high repair and maintenance price. Also like other review have said the the interior paint on buttons and handles chips easily causing the buttons to look cheap but can be touched up with a steady hand and a paint pen. This car is easily the funnest car I have ever owned and with a little care will be enjoyed for years to come."
