Top U. S. Ethanol Producer Files Chapter 11 Bankruptcy
The unpredictable twists and turns of the U.S economy have impacted yet another member of the green revolution. VeraSun Energy Corporation, one of the country's leading producers of corn-based ethanol, has been forced to file chapter 11 bankruptcy. The South Dakota firm said that it will continue operations during the financial reorganization process and will still attempt to meet a projected goal of turning out 1.64 billion gallons of this renewable fuel during 2008 from its 16 existing ethanol production facilities.VeraSun's predicament was succinctly summed up in the press release that accompanied its filing, which confirmed that the action was precipitated by a series of events that led to a contraction in operating liquidity that impacted both...

U.S. E85 Availability Grows by Double Digits in 2008
The latest survey by the National Ethanol Vehicle Coalition (NEVC) indicates that the number of E85 pumps in America has risen by 28 percent since September 2007. The current total of 1,802 includes both public and private refueling rigs, with the general public having access to 1,693 of them. As one might expect, the heartland leads the way in E85 availability, with 357 outlets in Minnesota, 188 in Illinois and 112 in Missouri. Currently seven states -- Alaska, Hawaii, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Rhode Island and Vermont -- have no E85 retailers of any kind.
